Arrow: The Complete First Season [Blu-ray]

Wow. I Am Impressed
I had low expectations when I decided to download the pilot episode. After the utter failure of 'The Cape' and other superhero TV shows ruined with poor acting, poor action and plots that could have been written by a 10 year old, who can blame me for expecting Arrow to be another loser. However, I actually came away impressed ... and I am not that easily impressed.

First, the selection of Stephen Amell as Green Arrow was excellent. I was worried the role would go to a male model more concerned with being pretty than being a hardened man on a mission. With Stephen Amell as Green Arrow you get a guy who comes off more as an MMA fighter, which makes Arrow so much more believable. The action scenes are crisp and effective. Arrow starts out with grit and has an edgy quality that keeps you interested. The plot contains plenty of room for mystery and the dialogue/acting is pretty good. This show justs gets better and better!
I love, love, love this show. Such a nice change from the usual mostly meh kind of shows many of the networks are churning out like the mindless so called "reality" shows that I refuse to watch. Way to go CW-this is a winner.

Not your average superhero fan
First let me say, I probably skew the demographics on superhero TV and movies. I am a 52 year-old woman, and have loved the science fiction and superhero genres since I was 12. I love the X-men movies (all of them), most of the Batman movies, the first Iron Man movie,not crazy about Superman (too goody-goody for me, I like 'em dark!). I'm a faithful fan of the excellent Grimm, and the sometimes over-the-top Once Upon A Time. I even enjoy watching some of the animated Spiderman and others with my grandson (LOVE the Di-gata Defenders!). The best ones are archetypes, resonating in the soul.

That said, my review:

This series is really well-done, the cast is exceptionally strong considering their lack of fame, the acting is well above average for the genre, and particularly for a television series. Love And Hip Hop: Season 2

I wish there were more seasons!
This series is full of drama. I'd recommend it to anyone. Only if they could all just keep it together, maybe I'm just getting too mature for stuff like this...people who take for granted what they do have.

Way of the Ninja

Missing 1st 2 episodes!
My 5 1/2yo son loves Ninjago and was so excited to get this DVD! We've been recording the episodes on tv, but I wanted something to take in the car when we travel. The episodes are great and appropriate for his age (my 3yo also likes watching them) but the 1st two episodes are not on the DVD! I supposed that's why it's not described as "The COMPLETE 1st season." Somewhat frustrating. Now I need to purchase the original DVD, Masters of Spinjitzu, which I did not realize until I looked it up on amazon. I think a little bit of misleading advertising.

A Must-Have for any Ninjago Fan!
Before I get on with the review, I must point out that I am the son of Screaming Viking.
Ninjago: Season 1 is an awesome set of episodes. It is somewhat kid-friendly, though there is some kicking and punching in it (against the bad-guys). Even though I am over 13 years of age, this season was a load of fun for me. There is a lot of character developement and story besides the martial arts, if you are worried that this is just going to be another Power Rangers-like series. Do you like Lego Ninjago? If the answer is yes, then this product is definately for you. Also, check out the Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitsu DVD. I have watched every single episode of Ninjago, and I must say that these TV specials are worth seeing over and over again.

I wish I would have seen them first...
My kids love Lego Ninjago. We have bought almost all of the books and they have read them over and over. They have several sets and they spend hours playing with them (and eyeing new sets!).

When my son was about to turn eight, I saw this this product online and was really excited to get it for him for his birthday; I knew he would love it. We had never seen any of the episodes, and I wish I would have watched some first. My kids - they love them. As a mom, I don't like some of the humor and overtones. There are things that are rude or mean used as humor. There is disrespect and complaining to their sensei. Jay whines about losing the high scores on his video games like it is the end of the world.

The first time we watched it I was just cringing in parts and feeling like I wanted it to be the first time and last time they watched it. It isn't over the top terrible, just has enough things that I do not want my children adopting to concern me. Kids are so...

Alley Fight, Street Fight, Falls Count Anywhere, Hardcore...no matter what You call it, these are some of the most out of control matches you can be a witness to with Mick Foley hosting this DVD set.

Alley Fight Match: Pat Patterson vs. Sgt. Slaughter - This was a first of it's kind for this era of wrestling & a match that's still rare to happen today as this was a come as your dress street fight but the special catch here was that there was no referee in this match either. Patterson worked over Slaughter using his cowboy boots to stomp & his belt before Slaughter was able to regain control & use the belt to his advantage to choke Pat. Just like an alley fight, this eventually became a fist fight to the point where Slaughter was heavily bleeding. This was a physically violent match for it's time & still stands out today.

Live at the Roseland Ballroom NYC [Blu-ray]

BACHMAN AND TURNER WITHOUT THE OVERDRIVE!
I was on vacation and watched the last half of this concert on a local PBS station in my hotel room. It was jaw-dropping! The next morning, I looked it up on-line at Amazon and ordered it! The concert was fantastic! I did not realize how talented C.F.(Fred) Turner is! He is a very underrated Bass guitarist (but then Bass players usually are, unless you are Geddy Lee of Rush!). I am a huge fan of the Guess Who and Bachman Turner Overdrive. Bachman and Turner's greatest hits make up the majority of the concert; Not Fragile and Blue Collar were fabulous; a couple of OK new songs, an OK rendition of American Woman (one of my favorite Guess Who songs!) and I was absolutely stunned when Randy Bachman called Paul Shaffer to the stage to play on Shakin' All Over (great song!), Roll on Down the Highway (Turner is as good as ever on vocals!) and the finale Takin Care of Business. Solid show from Bachman and Turner
A good DVD of a late 2010 gig put on by Bachman and Turner. Turner's voice is a little rough but works pretty well in the live setting. The band sounds good. Only the audience, who seems half-asleep (kinda strange for a New York audience, isn't it?), is puzzling here. Despite the audience only coming out of their zombie-esque state for the encore "Takin' Care of Business," Bachman, Turner and their colleagues turn in a fine effort. Fans of BTO, Bachman & Turner and Bachman's guitar playing will be pleased.

Classic Rock & Roll
Ordered the SD from Bachmans web site many Months ago (shipped from Canada). This title is a great gig of good old rock and roll. If you like BTO's stuff get this one.

LASSIE'S GIFT OF LOVE

At Last More Lassie on DVD!
I have this story on video and was delighted to see it on DVD. In the two part title story, Timmy and Lassie befriend an elderly toy mender who agrees to help with a toys-for-sick-children project at the local hospital. Together the three of them decide to feed hungry forest animals during the holiday season--until wolves lured into the area by easy game start attacking farm animals. Great classic LASSIE story. A second story is included, "The Greatest Gift," which features forest ranger Corey Stuart. A young boy, troubled by his father being reported missing in action in Vietnam, is devastated to discover that the big spruce tree he and his dad used as "a meeting tree" on fishing expeditions is to be cut down for the National Christmas tree. These episodes have been restored and are also uncut for the first time in years. Well worth it if you have small children or are a LASSIE fan.

Good memories
Lassie's Gift of Love is, as its name said, a gift for all us. It contains two different Christmas Stories. In the first one -presented in two parts- Timmy and Lassie met a kindly old man, Mr. Nicholson, who helps Timmy to fee the wild animals during the hard winter. In the other, Lassie is with the Forest Ranger Corey Stuart choosing the National Christmas Tree. But this beautiful tree is the symbol of the meeting between the father -a Navy Pilot just reported as missing in action- and a young boy. The boy is very unhappy because he thinks that without the tree he will lose his father too.

Just as expected, copies of the old shows and suitable for the whole family to watch. This was bought for an 8 year old boy who loves the Lassie stories.

MR. MAGOO--COME BACK LITTLE MCBARKER

Sadly...not the original!
After watching a Magoo short tacked onto our Mr. Magoo's A Christmas Carol disk, my kids were in love with Mr. Magoo! I shied away from the box-set because reviews complained of censorship that ruined their nostalgia surrounding the cartoon, so I purchased several of these titles, not realizing they were a re-made series from the 70s. Unfortunately, not funny...not clever...not sharp like the original series. Boo. Disappointing!!!

Docuventary

Felicity still awesome but beware the music soundtrack
FELICITY has aged very well and is in no way dated. I grew up with this show and never purchased any of the seasons on dvd with their original release. The series is grounded by superb writing and direction, timeless storylines that affect college age people that never fade but most of all it is held together by the all around superb cast. The acting here is impeccable and runs the gamut from humorous to heartwrenching. And of course at its center is the star, the immensely talented Keri Russell. The weight of the show rests on her angelic shoulders and she carries it so gracefully. To follow her emotional journey becomes a gift to the viewer.

Most people reading this will agree with what I just said and are huge fans of the show. But what one wonders is why have these reissued boxed sets appeared and how is the quality? I never saw the original released boxed sets but know at that time series sets were rather bulky. This firs season is a very slim presentation...

TOTALLY DECEIVING !
I love Felicity, and I would love this DVD box set if only Buena did not change nearly ALL of the background popular music. So now when you pop in a disc, watch an episode, you feel completely and utterly lost as the beuatifull music originally aired has been replaced with new "up to date" music. Exactly like the re-runs on thw WE channel, same "new" unfitting music. This is not what I have come to watch and love.

Would you buy the movie Ghost if the classic love scene would have another song playing in the background than Unchained Melody ? I'm sorry but changing the music alltogether is changing the overall feel and I don't get to watch the scene I remember the way they were done.

Poor judgment from Buena Vista to think nobody would notice that.

I'll stick to my VHS set thank you very much.

This is sad. Don't buy this unless you don't care about the memorable scenes with carefully chosen fitting music playing in the background.

Eh....Not the same!
I originally caught Felicity when I was in my late teens and it's one of the few shows I could really relate to. The show itself is great and I would recommend it to anyone, but the DVD set....absolutely NOT! I blame myself for not reading the reviews for the previously released DVD sets, but this one has NONE of the original music that first aired with the program. I knew something was a bit off when some songs played over bits of dialogue in the wrong places; and LOUDLY so I could barely hear what was being said. My memory of one scene in particular had a very lovely song that was replaced by some wretched watered down version of ANOTHER song. To me, it definitely changed the tone of some scenes and the emotional connection was somewhat lost. Also, there are no great new updates where the video quality is concerned. It's almost like the show was cut and pasted from the WB onto DVD format and slapped together with some new music that really sets the whole thing off-kilter. Grr...If...

Final Answer

Felicity Season 2 - better still!
I am a huge Felicity fan - I was not a big tv viewer prior to its pilot and never real got into the whole WB thing (hated dawson's creek - do any teenagers really talk like that? Please!)
Felicity was great because I started watching it as a freshman and I know it's corny but I almost felt like I was growing up with her, because it was SO real and true. It so closely resembled things in my college experience and my friends' college experiences. I felt like each season we saw her grow and change into a new individual (loved the change of theme song in season 3).

The first season was new, innovative, hopeful, inspiring. It was like being in college - lots of doors were opened and everyone wanted to see which way she'd go.

Season two is great because you start to see the other characters come to life. Ben develops, starts to become a person who actually deals with his problems rather than ignoring them and being a jerk. Some people think that season 2 became too...

Absolutely amazing
In season one we came to know the characters of Felicity and we came to love each and every one of them for what they were. We went through our weeks waiting for the night when we could sit down and watch the one show that we could relate to. We could relate to Felicity's boy woes, and we knew exactly what she must have been feeling everytime Ben messed up. Season one introduced us to the cast that kept us mesmerized for the following three years.

Season two created an environment where the characters blossomed, and if anything we began to respect them much more for their character flaws. It made them real. We began to understand Ben's confusion, and know exactly what Felicity must be thinking. The love that Ben and Felicity had began to unfold before us, and we could relate.

I have always loved Felicity. It has always been, and always will be the one show that I could honestly relate to. It wasn't sugarcoated. It wasn't fake. It was college. It was television like it should...

Amazing
Felicity, where to begin. Before this show there was nothing good on t.v. Flipping through the channels was pointless and I had just about given up on finding a decent show. Then along came Felicity. An inspiring show about a girl entering college to follow the boy she doesnt even know, all because of what he wrote in her yearbook, but in her words "I had always thought that if we knew eachother, we would love eachother." As the 1st season began I instantly fell inlove, with all the characters. Felicity, the sweet romantic who goes to college for a boy, but ends up realizing that she really came for herself, Ben, who goes to collede in Ny to get away from his family, and finds a love worth fighting for, and Noel, who falls inlove with Felicity from the start, and fights to have her. And I watched only to discover that it got better every season. I encourage anyone, who ever tired somthing spontaneiuos, whoever had there heart broken, fell inlove, or saw beyond all the problems around...

The Paper Chase

Felicity's Grand Finally
If your looking for consistently amazing acting, then "Felicity" is the show for you. Sadly the fourth was the last season of "Felicity" and thus the graduating season. Nonetheless, many fans would have loved to see Felicity's life unfold outside of collage. This season of Felicity deals with the hardships of commitment. Many characters this season deal commitment issues, such as relationships, education, and with following a particular career path. Most viewers would assume that by now Felicity would know exactly what it is that she's meant to do, and who she is meant to be with, however this is not the case. No show has come closer to displaying this sense of regret and uncertainty as "Felicity" does this season. Just because we get older doesn't mean we know everything. Felicity's confidence has grown with each passing season, but much of her season one and two uncertainties come back to haut her. So just when you the viewers think they know her, she does something completely out...

crash and burn
I am a big Felicity fan, but the Senior Year really hit a terrible wall. One of the creators admitted in interviews later that he had already moved on to Alias, and it shows. This is a mess. He and all the producers and writers should be ashamed to have let their fine project peter out like this. The scripts no longer make any sense. Characters act out-of-character, many things go unexplained, plotlines are dropped right and left, minor characters are played by the same person, and so on. Apparently, people at NYU have multiple jobs, working in the mailroom one month and in counseling the next, working in the health center one month and in the library the next. The producers can't even take the time to hire separate people to play these parts. But the worst is having Felicity copy her final paper and then be allowed to graduate. This after they had a show about cheating in season 2, making it a very big deal. Now, suddenly, there are no consequences. It is apparently OK to...

love it.
I've seen all the felicity episodes countless times. I think the season I get most involved in is the 1st and 3rd, but the senior year was good. If you enjoy her thought patterns and her indecision between ben and noel, this is a fun ending. Sometimes it's fun to go back to college with her. I personally never lived in a dorm, but this kinda lets you know what it was like, and also all the post-dorm, apartment living too.

I'll also comment that I think everyone on the show did great acting. Scott Speedman's portrayal of Ben is the hottest pain-in-the-ass with a heart who repeated screws up. Its so easy to sympatize with Scott Foley's character, Noel, and get frustrated with him every single time. Sometimes Felicity drives me crazy, but you can understand how she arrived at different conclusions time and again. And may I also say, Javier always adds the much needed dose of comedy, and most of the time steals the show. I love felicity, and I thought it was an awesome show.

if you have seen the original Nadesico, this "Second Season" is a must, it shows a lot of new things, and answers a lot of questions the original leaves open. all in all a good way to end the series, or possibly open it up for a whole new series to spin off it from.

My two Grandson 3 & 5 loved this old DVD.Opened a whole new world of gentle, loving character to be enjoyed. Their Mother loved Casper and I was happy to continue the legend of this happy little Ghost.

Mr. Magoo in Sherwood Forest

Amazon has it all wrong!!! This is a Cartoon!!!
This is not the live action movie that Amazon says but a older cartoon from the sixties, I think. It stars Jim Backus (Mr Howell from Gilligan's Island) as the voice of Magoo and other voice actors in different roles. There is a whole series of these movies and this is the first release. Get it right people!

Mr. Magoo, Where are you?
I first ran across the Mr. Magoo Literary Adventure series back in 1974. They were aired on Saturday afternoons. The best ones were Mr. Magoo on Treasure Island, Mr. Magoo in Sherwood Forest, Mr. Magoo and the Three Musketeers, and Mr. Magoo's A Christmas Carol. There were several other programs, but these were the best ones. I have all of them on VHS, but I've only been able to find Sherwood forest and A Christmas Carol on DVD. The programs are very entertaining, well written, and the animation is great.
If you can find any of these films grab them. I just don't understand why all of them aren't available on DVD.

Fat Albert's Halloween Special

A Childhood Memory of Halloween in the 80's
The late 70's and 80's were the prime times for cartoon characters. Garfield, the Smurfs, the Muppet Babies and Fat Albert were brightening up television screens on Saturday mornings for many children, me included.

Holiday specials were always something I looked forward to as a child. Garfield's Halloween and Christmas specials were not to be missed as well as Fat Albert's Christmas and my favorite, Fat Albert's Halloween Special. Suddenly these annual treats disappeared off of tv and vhs copies were hard to get a hold of. Now that we have dvd technology, Fat Albert's Halloween special is going to be released in time for Halloween 2005!

This special, shown for the first time in 1977, includes all the characters from the show who decide to dress up and trick people around town. Their antics result in getting kicked out of the neighborhood theater, and a visit to an old man results in him eating all of the gang's treats. They then decide to visit Old Lady...

Fat Albert and the Gang must save Christmas, their clubhouse, and a family in need.
It's your typical Fat Albert episode, gone Christmas themed. The always looking to do good gang is facing the demolition of their clubhouse, and a friend's father has lost his job, leaving his family homeless for Christmas. It's up to Fat Albert to save the holiday for everyone, and to do it, he needs to show the grinchy Tightwad Tyrone the spirit of Christmas. I won't spoil the end, so you'll have to buy it and see!

You get one 1/2 hour episode (or 23 minutes) and one game, which is find out which snowman Fat Albert is hiding behind. It's a simple game, but my son kept wanting to play it over and over. The colors are very bright and the DVD quality is excellent. I think it would have been nice to have both this one and the Halloween episode on 1 DVD. Either way, I would purchase this one from Amazon, as I have never seen it sold in any local stores. A great find for the Fat Albert fan.

HEY! HEY! HEY! HALLOWEEN IS A-OK!
This DVD release takes me back to October, 1977 when I first saw "The Fat Albert Halloween Special" on network television. I was always a fan of the Saturday morning "Fat Albert & The Cosby Kids" cartoon, and of this special in particular. This special doesn't quite match "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown," but it's still a classic that deserves to be seen by kids of all ages. Maybe it's just a chance to stroll down memory lane and relive Halloween's gone by, but it sure is nice to have this in my collection. The bonus episodes are also enjoyable.

For older kids like me, it's great to watch Fat Albert and the gang go Trick or Treating once again. And, like Bill Cosby says at the beginning of the TV series, "You may even learn something before it's done... so let's get ready, ok? HEY! HEY! HEY!"

LASSIE- FLIGHT OF THE COUGAR

My 7-yr-old loves it!
My dd loves "Flight of the Cougar" so much that she even spent her own money to get it, and she *rarely* spends her own money. We'd seen several of the Lassie "ranger years" when we had DirectTV, and they've been the hardest to find on dvd. In this show she loves the humor and the suspense, the woman pilot, and of course, the cougar cubs and the satisfactory ending. For only $8, this dvd is a very good value. We'd buy more of Lassie and the ranger years if they were available.
